Test Bolivian Criollo Tobacco Check out our other listings! Bolivian Criollo Black is a dark tobacco that has similar characteristics to burley. A vigorous grow and heavy producer, the plants can grow up to 8 feet in height and produce an average of 26 to 28 harvestable leaves. Leaves are very sticky and grow to about 14 to 16 inches in width and 30 to 36 inches in length. They turn from light green to yellow as they ripe and easily air cure to a light brown. Flavor is similar to medium strength burly. Can be used as a pipe tobacco or blended with other tobaccos for use in cigarettes or as cigar filler. 75 days to maturity. Tobacco Germination Guide Select the soil and container in which to start your seeds. For soil, use a seed starting mix for the best results. You may also use a soil-less potting mix, which is cheaper and widely available at most garden centers. For the container, use seed trays or small pots around three or four inches tall. Fill your pots or seed trays with potting mix to within 1/2 inch of the top. Thoroughly soak the soil with water and allow the excess water drain off before planting. Place 2-3 seeds per seed tray cell or pot on top of the soil. Tobacco seeds require light for germination, so do not cover them with soil. Cover the trays or pots with plastic or a seeding dome to increase humidity and raise the temperature of the soil, then place the trays/pots on a sunny windowsill or beneath a grow light. The seeds will germinate quicker when the soil temperature is between 70 to 80°F. Water the seeds whenever the top of layer of soil appears dry. Be careful not to overwater, and take care not to move/wash away the seeds when watering. To avoid any potential issues, consider watering from the bottom or lightly misting the soil with water from a spray bottle. Remove the plastic or seed dome from the the pots/trays once the seedlings have germinated. Once the seedlings reach about 3 inches in height you may transplant them to bigger pots or directly into your garden. If transplanting to your garden, select an area that receives partial to full sunlight. Space the seedlings 12-26 inches apart, in rows that are 36-60 inches apart. Water thoroughly after transplanting, daily until plants are established, and 2 to 3 times per week thereafter.
