Test Marketmore 76 Cucumber Check out our other listings! Marketmore 76 is an open-pollinated slicer cucumber and a longtime standard among home gardeners due to its hardiness and classic cucumber flavor. Vines are vigorous, productive, and highly disease resistant. They do well in both warm and cool weather, and produce fruits over a longer period of time compared to other slicing varieties. Dark green fruits are 8 to 10 inches long with slightly bumpy skin. Perfect for slicing or pickling! 66 days to maturity. Cucumber Germination Guide Before sowing, consider soaking your cucumber seeds in warm water overnight. Try out the paper towel method for this! Cucumber seeds are pretty tough, so soaking before planting will help speed up the germination time. Select the soil and container in which to start your seeds. For soil, use a seed starting mix for the best results. You may also use a soil-less potting mix, which is cheaper and widely available at most garden centers. For the container, use cell packs or a small pot three to four inches tall to start your seeds. Fill your container with potting mix to within 1 inch of the top. Place a single seed on top of the soil near the center of the pot, one seed per pot. Cover the seeds with about 1/2 inch layer of potting mix. Gently press the soil down with your fingers to ensure good contact between the seed and soil. Cover pots with plastic or a seeding dome to increase humidity and raise the temperature of the soil. Cucumber seeds require a soil temperature between 60°F and 90°F, so consider using a heating mat to provide the seeds with the necessary heat for germination. Sprinkle or mist water on the seeds whenever the top of layer of soil appears dry. Be careful not to overwater! Soggy soil may cause the seeds to rot. Remove the plastic or seed dome from the the pot/trays once the seedlings have germinated. Once the seedlings have grown three to four true leaves you may transplant them to your garden.
