Kalanchoe Mother of Thousands Pups (2024) Six Baby Plantlets Pups Ready to Grow

This listing is for six baby plantlets as shown in the first nine photos. After the first nine photos, we show how the plantlets grow along the edge of the mother plant’s leaves and how the plant looks in general. NCS Product Synopsis Quite possibly the hardiest plant in our collection, Kalanchoe daigremontiana, commonly known as Mother of Thousands, Mexican Hat Plant, or Devil’s Backbone, is a succulent plant that belongs to the Crassulaceae family. Native to Madagascar, this plant is known for its distinctive appearance and interesting reproductive method. Key features of Kalanchoe daigremontiana: Appearance: The plant has thick, fleshy, serrated leaves arranged in opposite pairs along the stem. The leaves are typically green with dark purple spots, and the edges have small plantlets, or “pups,” that develop along them. Reproduction: One of the most remarkable characteristics of Kalanchoe daigremontiana is its method of reproduction. The tiny plantlets along the leaf margins can produce roots and establish themselves as independent plants when they fall to the ground. This asexual reproduction strategy is why it’s often called “Mother of Thousands.” Flowering: While the primary propagation method is through the plantlets, Kalanchoe daigremontiana can also produce small tubular flowers in clusters, usually during the late winter or early spring. The flowers are typically greenish-yellow and are not the main ornamental feature of the plant. Cultivation: Mother of Thousands is a hardy succulent that is relatively easy to care for. It thrives in well-draining soil and requires a sunny location. Like many succulents, it is drought-tolerant and should be watered sparingly. Overwatering can lead to root rot. Toxicity: It’s important to note that Kalanchoe daigremontiana is toxic to pets, particularly cats and dogs. The plant contains compounds known as bufadienolides, which can cause vomiting, diarrhea, and other symptoms if ingested. Therefore, it should be kept out of reach of pets. Indoor and Outdoor Use: Kalanchoe daigremontiana is often grown as a houseplant, but it can also be cultivated outdoors in suitable climates. In areas with mild winters, it can be grown in garden beds or containers. Remember that while Kalanchoe daigremontiana is interesting and easy to grow, it’s important to be cautious if you have pets, as the plant can pose a risk to them if ingested. Always check for specific care recommendations based on your local climate and conditions.
