40 Dahlia Dandy Improved Mix seeds

This listing is for a package of 40 Dandy Improved Collarette Mix Dahlia seeds. Annual. Perennial zones 7-11. Full sun preferred. Most economic way of growing dahlias is to start them from seed! Excellent cut flower over a long bloom time. If timing and your region allows they can bloom from July through to falls first frost. This variety is considered a dwarf dahlia at around 20″. If grown closer together stems can stretch to use as cut flowers. Excellent for bedding, containers or mass plantings. This mix will produce a vibrant array of almost 100% collarette flowers centered with a contrasting, often picotee cluster of quill like petals. Shades of red, yellow, orange and white. ***Important information to know about dahlias. With Dahlias being Octoploids growing them from seed is always somewhat of a mystery. Every seed will have its own unique flowers that do not already exist. Growing: starting the seed indoors (recommended) up to 4-6 weeks before your regions last frost date. Cover seed with growing medium and keep moist until germination approximately 3-5 days under optimal conditions. Requires soil temperatures of 65-70. Do not start too early as root bound plants will have trouble during transition. Root disturbance can impact plant health. Harden off plants before transplanting outdoors. Direct seeding can be done once all danger of frost has passed and soil temps have warmed to at least 65. If this method is chosen you may get later blooms than if started indoors/transplanted. From seed to maturity is around 90 days. Plants will produce tubers which can be dug and saved to plant out again the following spring. In fall once plants have started to die back but before any major frost cut plants stems back to about 2″ above soil line. Gently dig up tubers and remove as much soil as possible. Before final winter storage let them dry out up to 4 days in a warm location without direct sunlight and sufficient airflow. There are a few different storage methods. It is best to look this up to gain knowledge and determine your preferred method. Plant height 20″ Spacing 9″-12″ *Tighter spacing can help lengthen stems for cutting. Please reach out to us with any planting or growing questions you may have! *** Notice to buyers. With all seed purchases it is assumed that the buyer does some research and applies due diligence to provide the correct germination/growing environment possible.
